Award Will Recognize Leadership
DEL RIO, Texas --- Most of the recognition in rodeo comes from what happens during the competition. However, what happens outside of the arena is equally important.
With that in mind, Bad Company Rodeo is going to recognize members of the Wrangler Division of the National High School Rodeo Association for their leadership.
Each state or province will nominate one person for the award. A winner will be selected from those nominees.
The winner of the Bad Company Rodeo Leadership Award will receive a trophy buckle recognizing their activities outside of the arena. Each of the nominees will receive an award certificate. Selection criteria will include community involvement in the student’s area of residence as well as the rodeo community.
Mack Altizer, CEO of Bad Company Rodeo was active in 4-H growing up near Del Rio, Texas. He was a leader in and out of the rodeo arena as the president of the American Junior Rodeo Association and the student president of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
Under the leadership of Altizer, Bad Company Rodeo has been setting trends like bringing Rock and Roll music and rodeo together. In 1998, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association recognized him as Stock Contractor of the Year.
“I learned more about life and being a competitor from my activities outside of the arena,” Altizer said. “I think that it’s very important for today’s young people to get involved and we are hoping that this award will encourage them to do that.”
The winner of the Bad Company Rodeo Leadership Award will be announced during the Wrangler Junior High School Rodeo Finals in Gallup, N.M., July 2 – 7.
