Steamboat Pro Rodeo Well Underway

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.--- The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series is well underway with two events under their belt.

Bad Company Rodeo from Del Rio, Texas, is providing livestock for the first four rodeos in the 10-event series. Their horse Moulin Rouge has taken cowboys to the top of the leader board in bareback riding for two consecutive weeks.

The 9-year-old black mare took riders to 85 and 87 points. The first weekend, June 22 & 23, it was Travis Carlson from Big Piney, Wyo., that rode her. His 85-point ride earned him $562. On Saturday, June 30 Karlon Knudson from Arvada, Wyo., rode her for 87 and won $547.

Moulin Rouge is the horse that took Frenchman Evan Jayne to 92-points at the Killeen Rodeo in Texas on June 2. She is quickly becoming one of the superstar buckers in Bad Company Rodeo’s string.

The big winners here so far have been in the team roping. Jay and Ryon Tittel from Pueblo, Colo., made their first appearance at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 2005 roping together. The talented brothers were a top the leader board in Steamboat, but this time they were roping with different partners.

Jay did the heeling for Jim Garson of Bosler, Wyo., the first weekend of the rodeo. Their 5.3-second run earned them each $1,159.  The second weekend saw Ryon catching heels for Justin Young from Firestone, Colo. They stopped the clock in 4.9 seconds to win $1,017. These ropers are expected to make the trip over the Continental Divide to compete here the next two dates in the series, July 3 & 4 and 7 & 8.

Another Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier that won his event here was bull rider Will Farrell from Thermopolis, Wyo. Farrell got on Bad Company Rodeo’s All Jacked Up for 85 points. The eight-second effort earned him $866.

“I had a free night before the Fourth of July run, so it made sense for me to come here,” Farrell said. “They’ve had great bulls here in the past. I’ve been here several times and always gotten on great bulls. This is the first time that I’ve really done well, and that makes me want to come back again.”

Many of the Mountain States Circuit’s best rodeo contestants will be competing here throughout the series. However, as schedules allow, contestants from other areas of the country enjoy an opportunity to come to the resort community and enjoy the mountain scenery.

Bad Company Rodeo also brought their Who’s Your Daddy Jr. Bull Riding Tour to Steamboat putting young bulls against young riders. It is open to bull riders from 12 to 15 years old. The first event was held this past weekend with T.J. McEnulty from Salida, Colo., being the only rider to last to the whistle. That eight second ride earned him $875.
